What started as a volunteering opportunity at Haven Café has turned into an exciting new chapter for Finlay.
After two years of volunteering at The Haven Centre in Inverness, Finlay, a former pupil of Drummond School, has taken the next step into paid employment, with support from the people and organisations around him.
It’s a fantastic achievement and a story we’re delighted to share.
Two Years of Volunteering at Haven Café
For the past two years, Finlay has been a familiar face at Haven Café, volunteering and gaining valuable experience in a working café environment.
The opportunity has given him the chance to develop his skills, experience working as part of a team and become part of the day-to-day life of the café.
And now, that volunteering experience has helped open the door to something new.
Taking the Next Step into Paid Employment
With support from Enable Works, The Haven Centre and the Work Life Highland Hero Fund, Finlay has been given the opportunity to move from volunteering into paid employment at Haven Café.
It’s an exciting milestone for Finlay and a great example of what can be achieved when local organisations work together to create meaningful opportunities.
A big thank you to Enable Works and the Work Life Highland Hero Fund for their involvement in helping make this next step possible.
And, of course, congratulations to Finlay!
Creating Opportunities at The Haven Centre
At The Haven Centre, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to develop their skills, build confidence and work towards their own goals.
While many people know us for our specialist Play Centre, our other spaces and facilities also create opportunities for people across Inverness and the Highlands.
Finlay’s journey is one example of how Haven Café can provide more than somewhere to enjoy a coffee or a bite to eat. It can also be a place to gain experience, learn and take meaningful steps towards employment.
We’re excited to see what this next chapter brings for Finlay.
Come and Visit Haven Café
Haven Café is open to everyone, whether you’re visiting another part of The Haven Centre or simply popping in for coffee, lunch or a catch-up with friends.
We’d love to welcome you!
